Set in the Minervois area of Languedoc, Trausse was once a Roman settlement, later
a fortified village, and retains medieval vestiges.
It is accessible by air (Ryanair to Carcassonne, or the international airport at
Toulouse); by train to Narbonne and Carcassonne; by bus to Carcassonne; as well as
by road. It is a nine-hour drive from Paris.
The village has a bar/restaurant, mini-market and post office. Markets are held regularly
in surrounding villages and larger towns. Fresh produce is sold daily by merchants
from their vans in the village square.
A wine-producing region of growing reputation, Trausse has five wineries. There are
many in neighbouring villages. Local restaurants are excellent value.
